Fantasy Author, Terry Pratchett Dies at 66 After Battling Alzheimer's

Terry Pratchett wrote more than 70 books over his lengthy career. He was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2007. Sir Terry Pratchett died at home, surrounded by his family. He died aged 66 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's disease. Though he was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2007, the author continued writing, completing his final book last summer. Popularly called Sir Terry by his fans, the fantasy author was best known for the Discworld series.

#RIPNimoy is trending and it's like a big chunk of my childhood is saying goodbye. Most afternoons and weekends back in Enugu, the Anambra Broadcasting Corporation back in those days fuelled my love of everthing beyond this earth by showing re-runs of all the Star Trek movies and the series too.

Spock and his open fingered gesture was a big part of that childhood, and it's so sad that Leonard Nimoy, the original actor who portrayed the extra-terrestial so succintly has now passed on. But that is time and change, which finally gets to us all. Leonard Nimoy made the news a few days ago when he had to go in to hospital for pneumonia. He passed away today at home aged 83. May his soul rest in peace.

Feminist Lesley Gore Dies of Cancer - Watch "You Don't Own Me" PSA

Lesley Gore, writer and singer of the feminist anthem "You Don't Own Me," died Monday. She was 68. Gore died of lung cancer at New York University Langone Medical Center in Manhattan, according to her partner of 33 years, Lois Sasson. Sasson, a jewelry designer, told The Associated Press;

"She was a wonderful human being - caring, giving, a great feminist, great woman, great human being, great humanitarian."

Lorena Rojas has passed away today from cancer aged just 44. Lorena Rojas was a well known Telenovel actress appearing in such shows as “Buscando el Paraíso,” “Bajo un Mismo Rostro,” “El Alma No Tiene Color,” “El Cuerpo del Deseo" and “Ladrón de Corazones”.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and managed to recover successfully. However, in 2012 she was diagnosed again, and the cancer had spread to her bones. In November 2014, she was diagnosed with liver cancer, in addition to the bone cancer. Although she fought as hard as she could, the actress passed away today to deep mourning from her fans. NYT Writer David Carr Dies at 58 - Tributes and Quotes

New York Times columnist and writer David Carr has died yesterday at the age of 58. Some of his fans and colleagues have been sharing their favorite quotes from his writing and memoir, and also from the many speeches he gave to upcoming journalists in his Media Equation column for the New York paper.

In his memoir titled, The Night of the Gun, David Carr confessed to having struggled with drug abuse, and revealed how he was able to overcome his addiction and grow into a loving family man. He is survived by wife Jill Rooney Carr and three children. Many have said they will miss him and his honest, witty humor. May his soul rest in peace.

Bob Simon was one of the regular correspondents on 60 Minutes, one of the documentary programs we almost never miss in our household. When I got a notification from my CNN app last night that he died in a car accident, it was like it happened to someone I knew. Now, tributes are pouring in from fellow journalists and fans of the veteran journalist. Bob Simon died at the age of 73, but IMO, he was gone too soon.

RIP Monty Oum - Viral Web Series Animator Passes

'RIP Monty Oum' has been trending on Twitter after the 33-year-old animator's employer, Rooster Teeth announced his passing earlier today. Oum had been in intensive care since late January after suffering an allergic reaction during a routine medical procedure.

A Go Fund Me page that was set up to help pay for the animator’s spiraling medical costs after weeks in hospital raised over $180,000 for a goal of $50,000. Monty's animated web series had been very popular before his death.

Condolences have been pouring out to Oum's family and his co-workers after the company posted a statement about his death on their website.

Jude, Peter & Paul Okoye's Father Buried - All The Photos

Peter, Paul and Jude Okoye lost their dad in November 2014, read here, and the burial took place today. PSquare’s father, Chief Moses Okoye, was laid to rest at his hometown in Ifitedunu, Anambra State. The burial started with a Service of Songs on Thursday evening after which Peter and Paul paid a courtesy visit to the monarch of the village. Earlier today, there was a burial mass at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Ifitedunu.

Peter Okoye and wife Lola Omotayo-Okoye first shared pictures as they arrived in Anambra, both wearing white. Peter captioned his picture, ‘In Anambra… RIP DADDY’. Paul also shared a few pictures from the gathering as well as appreciative words for his wife.

Tears Flow at Burial for Joshua Adah - Missionary Killed By Fulani Herdsmen in Taraba [Photos]

Pastor Joshua Adah has been buried today, barely a week after he was hacked to death in Taraba State on January 23rd by Fulani Herdsmen. The 36-year-old husband and father of two was loved by all who knew him and became well known after being featured on Naija Diamonds Season 2 which held in 2012, as one of the people making a difference in Nigeria.

For his brethren in Christ and the ministry, Joshua's death came as a rude they could not believe till pictures showed his burial. Robin William's Widow Reveals He Had Parkinsons In Touching Statement About His Death

In a follow-up to her earlier brief note confirming Robin Williams' death, his widow Susan Schneider has revealed a statement that reveals the actor and comedian, though sober, was suffering from anxiety and depression as well as the early stages of Parkinson's Disease. The statement reads;

“Robin spent so much of his life helping others. Whether he was entertaining millions on stage, film or television, our troops on the frontlines, or comforting a sick child — Robin wanted us to laugh and to feel less afraid.

Since his passing, all of us who loved Robin have found some solace in the tremendous outpouring of affection and admiration for him from the millions of people whose lives he touched. His greatest legacy, besides his three children, is the joy and happiness he offered to others, particularly to those fighting personal battles.

Drew Barrymore's paternal half-sister, Jessica Barrymore, was found dead in her car Tuesday morning from a possible overdose.

Hours after Jessica’s death went public, Drew Barrymore released a statement;

"Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I'm so incredibly sorry for their loss."

Jessica Barrymore and her famous half-sibling had the same father — legendary actor John Drew Barrymore, who died in 2004.

Tribute To Lt. Kyom Leo: Young Soldier Killed Weeks Before His Wedding By Boko Haram

Lt. Kyom Leo was billed to marry his fiance Miss Angela Gaiya on Saturday the 30th of August, 2014 in Kaduna. The young army officer died fighting in a counter insurgency campaign against Boko Haram.

Now, one of my friends and favorite writers, Lulufa Vongtau, pens a tribute to his memory and to all those lost in the fight to contain Boko Haram in the North East of Nigeria.

Lulufa knew Leo as a child and was there as the young soldier was laid to rest on the 17th of July. Making his tribute more poignant is that Lulu also served in various capacities in Borno, when it was still peaceful.
